Siegerrebe is a white grape variety first bred in 1929 in Germany by crossing Gewürztraminer and Madeleine Angevine. The Siegerrebe grape is early ripening and one of the first grapes to be harvested. The grapes were picked early September from our own estate vineyard, along with the Heiss’ son’s vineyard, then gently pressed, cool fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks for pure varietal expression. 15% Viognier was added to increase aromatics and body.
This Siegerrebe is clear and bright with pretty aromas of mango, ripe peach, golden kiwi, and passionfruit. This is a light-bodied, medium-dry, smooth white wine with flavours of juicy tropical fruit, ripe peach, and pear. A medley of juicy ripe tropical fruits, tangerine, and honeysuckle notes linger on the finish. The touch of natural sweetness is balance by refreshing acidity.
Serve with roast chicken; lightly spiced vegetable or chicken stir-fries over Jasmine rice; sushi; lightly spiced steamed mussels; Asian influenced grilled salmon; Lake trout; steamed halibut with a corn salsa; veal schnitzel with lemon; baked ham; Moroccan spiced pork tenderloin; salty appetizers; spicy crab cakes; moderately spiced Thai and Indian cuisine.
Serving Temperature: Serve chilled between 10 and 12˚C for the perfect balance of natural sweetness and acidity.
