One of the oldest plantings of Syrah in Canada greets you as you cross over Kacaba's Silver Bailey Bridge to approach the winery. Wine produced from this block embraces elegance and complexity of flavours. Indulge in notes of dark cherry, black raspberry, red plum, roasted coffee beans, elevated spice and cracked pepper with this vintage. ** Silver Medal Winner - WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada 2022

Fairly deep ruby in colour with a gently complex, elegant, violet-tinged nose focusing on ripe Damson plum and attractive, very gently cedar notes. Dry, medium bodied, bright, harmonious, slightly spicy, fresh, plum and black cherry flavours with some very gently cedary notes on the attractive, lingering, rounded, gently toasty, very faintly savoury finish. A real treat to drink now. It has 10% Viognier added and was aged for 17 months in French and American oak (84% French and 16% American/ 16% new).

  • Connoisseur Note(s):

    Aromas of blueberry, black juicy cherry and piquant spice abound on the nose of this nicely balanced syrah. There are creamy-smooth mouthfuls of deftly balanced and delightfully delicious ambrosia on the lip-smacking finish and aftertaste. Pour alongside grilled steak, beer-can roasted chicken or grilled and mopped pork back ribs with spicy barbecue sauce. 92 points — Vic Harradine, winecurrent.com

    With a bit more smoke and spice than the Proprietor's block - this is the more austere of the pair of 2019 Syrah's currently available from Kacaba. This is medium bodied with good balance of fruit - and lingering smokiness on the finish. This is also a match to bbq'd lamb or beef - slightly more cellaring potential than the Proprietor's block - but I don't predict any additional fruit to reveal itself. Drink 2023-2029. ****+ — André Proulx, andrewinereivew.ca
