Petit Verdot

This exquisite, full-bodied wine is spicy, offering complex aromas of dark cherry, raspberry, lavender and sage. Propped up by mouth-watering acidity and striking tannins, the palate’s bold flavours of dark plum, preserved rhubarb and wet gravel yield to a smooth, lingering finish of chocolate mint.

It has been seven vintages since last tasting a Stratus petit verdot, a fruitful expression that stands as one of the Niagara-on-the-Lake winery's most unique in a portfolio of many-splendored reds. Recalling the gentle swarthiness and robust nature of that 2012, still very much alive in this kicking 2019. Not sure the vintages are all that divergent to be honest, perhaps more cool climate nature and minty verdancy showing through this time around. Liking the crunchy exterior and elastic chewy interior, a charming and attention grabbing contrast that works the palate with seamless efficiency. Red fruit, medium if also effective tannin and an overall sense of realism all do well to tie both the varietal and locational place together. Drink 2023-2026. Tasted July 2022.
