An invigorating fruit-filled wine with layered aromas of fresh-picked gooseberry, guava and anjou pear are integrated with ripe kiwi, honeydew and grapefruit flavours. Seasoned by the racy citrus-driven acidity that makes the ripe fruit profile sparkle, while a hint of freshly squeezed lime juice leaves a satisfying and long-lasting finish.

Growing Conditions:

2020 was a remarkable year for weather and wine in Ontario. Warmer than average winter months led to a cool dry April and May. The approach of summer brought a return of the hot weather with low precipitation and humidity. Similar conditions continued through August with only short, isolated, but intense thunderstorms. While temperatures began to naturally cool, sunshine remained throughout the autumn. The dry, sunny conditions were ideal for the full and complete maturation of grapes and contributed to a smooth harvest.

I am totally enamored with this wine, adding to my conviction that Niagara-on-the-Lake is emerging as a special locale for the variety, especially its warmer regions benefitting from a longer season and milder winters (it is a cold sensitive variety). This edition is very much in a white Bordeaux idiom with just under two years in French oak (13% new). But is not oaky, or even fume, on the nose - reminding aromatically more of Sancerre than Pessac-Leognan. Love the lifted aromas of fresh dill, lime, boxwood evergreen grapefruit and spice. Very intense and perfumed. It is mid-weight, fresh, tender and and refined (only 12% alcohol) with very fine balance and excellent length. Tasted November 2022
