  • Wine Club Feature: Quinta Ferreira Estate Winery

This month, our wine club members will receive a selection of fabulous wines from Quinta Ferreira Estate Winery in the Okanagan Valley, BC. Keep reading to learn more about this great family winery and some of our favourite bottles – then sign up for our wine club by July 15th to taste them for yourself!

Quinta Ferreira's story began in 1979 when John and Maria Ferreira purchased an orchard. Both were born in Portugal and had immigrated to Canada at a young age, and for 20 years they produced apples, peaches and cherries on their Black Sage Bench estate. Meanwhile, their son Michael worked as a cellar hand. Through years of hard work under some of the Okanagan's top winemakers, he learned what goes into making premium wine, from vineyard to vino. John and Maria saw his enthusiasm, and shared a passion for wine themselves. They took a big leap, and began the 3-year process of converting the orchard to a vineyard, planting their first grapes in 1999. Ever since, their award-winning wines have reflected both their Portuguese heritage and the beautiful desert terroir of the Black Sage Bench. Continue reading

  • Wine Club Feature: Diamond Estates Winery

Diamond Estates Winery is an umbrella company for many different brands including Lakeview Cellars & EastDell Estates. Contracts with 25 different growers allows them to produce lines of wine where each brand has a unique focus. Located on the highly regarded Niagara escarpment, the sites benefit from the lake's influence. Lakeview Cellars was originally founded by Eddy Gurinska and his wife Lorraine in 1991 and then purchased by Diamond Estates Winery in 2005.

Winemakers Scott McGregor and Tom Green craft wine in one of the largest wineries in Ontario. Sustainability is part of Diamond Estates' philosophy. Steps such as using solar panels and insulated tanks have been taken to save energy, and water usage is also carefully controlled.

This month, Diamond Estates Winery is proud to be the featured winery for our lucky wine club members. Check out which wines you'll receive this month and subscribe by April 13! Continue reading

  • Top Wine Picks from Kacaba Vineyards

As the mercury drops, my thoughts always turn to full-bodied red wines that bring big flavours and loads of character — I love ya, Beaujolais Nouveau, but now that November’s over your time is up! Niagara’s Kacaba Vineyards make some terrific whites (as well as a very smart bubbly), but when I need something to warm my soul it’s their red wines I turn to.

If you’re not familiar with Kacaba at all, you’re in luck — they’re currently featured as part of My Wine Canada’s Free Shipping Series. This week only get free shipping on any six or more bottles of wine from Kacaba — the discount will be applied at checkout. Mix and match between these ripping reds, or delve into a couple of their wonderful whites as well… it’s all up to you. Act now and Kacaba’s wines will arrive in time to enjoy with family and friends over the holidays. Continue reading

  • Pair it Up! GreenLane Estate Wines with Italian Cuisine

I recently read an interview that Lidia Bastianich did for Western Living Magazine to promote Una Bella Notte con Lidia, a fundraising gala she'll be hosting in Vancouver later this month. Her new book Mastering the Art of Italian Cuisine came out late last year to rave reviews. In honour of this week's free shipping offer from GreenLane Estate Winery on 6 or more bottles, I wanted to pair up their wines with three of Lidia Bastianich's recipes from her most recent book. • Get Free Shipping on these Top Wine Picks from Le Vieux Pin and La Stella Wineries

Old World wineries and wine-producing regions have long influenced those growing grapes and making wine on this side of the pond and throughout the New World. Without the incredible winemaking history in Bordeaux, Rioja, Burgundy, Tuscany, the Rheingau and the like, what would our viticultural history look like? More importantly, how would the wines taste? La Stella and Le Vieux Pin are two B.C. wineries who continue to do a great job paying homage to long-cherished Old World regions with the juice that ends up in their bottles, albeit with a New World flair that harnesses their unique terroir and combines long-established and newer winemaking techniques. And they're both offering free shipping on 6 or more bottles this week only - mix and match to your heart's delight, perhaps it's three bottles from La Stella and three from LVP! Continue reading
