Located on the picturesque Naramata Bench, Black Widow Winery, led by Dick and Shona Lancaster, has carefully crafted a winery focused on small-production whites, reds, rosés and sparkling wines. These are primarily made as single-vineyard offerings from their own property or three nearby Naramata vineyards. Over the last 17 years they’ve been joined by family and close friends in gradually creating a boutique winery, tasting room and patio that strives whenever possible to make wines that emphasize sustainable production and organic practices.
The result is wines that consistently fare well in competitions and with critics, but that remain completely accessible to the average palate. These are must-taste Naramata wines that emphasize quality. Act now and get FREE SHIPPING on Black Widow Winery wines when you buy six bottles or more!
A sense of place is crucial to any successful wine/winery, and it’s clear 50th Parallel Estate has embraced this notion in spades.
Proprietors Curtis Krouzel and Sheri-Lee Turner-Krouzel have been in the Okanagan Valley for over a decade, first planting 10 acres of vines by hand in 2009 on what would become their Lake Country-region winery. Their now-61-acre property is located north of Kelowna near Lake Okanagan, where winemakers Grant Stanley and Matt Fortuna make wines from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewürztraminer — all grapes that thrive in Lake Country’s relatively cooler climate.
The winery’s rise has been impressive; their inaugural 2011 vintage saw them produce just 700 cases of wine, while last year they pumped out an impressive 14,000 cases. This month, 50th Parallel Estate is proud to be the featured winery for our lucky wine club members. Check out which wines you'll receive this month and subscribe by Wednesday, Mar. 15!
While Meyer Family Vineyards may not be the biggest winery in the Okanagan Valley — far from it, in fact — the quality and consistency of the wines they produce means they punch well above their weight class. In fact, weight is not something you’ll find in most of the Okanagan Falls winery’s wines — rather, JAK and Janice Meyer and their team (lead by winemaker Chris Carson) prefer to work with cooler-climate, lighter-bodied wines such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewürztraminer and the like. And in doing so they consistently create wines with restraint, elegance, balance and grace.
Those qualities are typically found in wines from France’s Burgundy region, one of the primary inspirations for Meyer Family Vineyards. It comes as no surprise, then, that much of their portfolio is made up of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This month, Meyer Family Vineyards is proud to be the featured winery for our lucky wine club members. Check out which wines you'll receive this month and subscribe by Sunday, Jan. 15! So far this season, Vancouver has been typically and notoriously rainy. There have been a few years recently when winters have been uncharacteristically sunny and dry, but we’ve certainly been honouring tradition as of late.
With the rains come a desire to stay in once the work day’s done, and tuck into something warm and comforting for dinner. While it’s tempting to lean towards a rich pasta or meaty stew to sate such cravings, I’ve been trying to eat a little healthier as of late (knowing that it’s all going out the window as we get into the holiday season). Plus, with the free shipping deal from Lunessence Winery & Vineyards that's on right now, their wines are the perfect match for comfort food. Continue reading
There's something about fall that gives me a serious craving for pasta. Hearty, savoury flavours; squashes, mushrooms, braises and ragus, all mixed in with perfectly cooked noodles. This week (and my pasta craving) coincides with My Wine Canada's free shipping offer on 12 or more bottles, or 50% off shipping on 6 bottles from Thornhaven Estates Winery, the Summerland winery with a stunning view above Okanagan Lake. Thornhaven's wines have been among my go-to Okanagan value picks for over a decade. This is a perfect time to dig up some pasta recipes and find a few great pairings to send right to your door.
