  • Top Wine Picks! Moraine Estate Winery

After honing her skills in her native New Zealand, Moraine Estate Winery's winemaker Jacqueline Kemp (‘Jacq’ to those around her) had worked vintages in Western Australia and a little place in France called ‘Burgundy,’ before eventually settling in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. While working with various wineries, she was raising her young boys in her Naramata home, and had always kept an eye on what looked to be an ideal vineyard property down Naramata Road, perched just above Lake Okanagan.

When area newcomers Oleg and Svetlana Aristarkhov eventually purchased the property, even though it wasn’t Kemp signing on the dotted line, serendipity struck and she took the role of winemaker, enjoying the opportunity to get her hands in the soil after all.

I was impressed by the quality and couldn’t wait to taste more from this new winery, Tightrope. Continue reading

  • Pair It Up! Seasonal Feasting

It happens to the best of us. When it comes to the holiday season, regardless of noble intentions - we end up avoiding our regular gym or yoga sessions, we promise ourselves we’ll resume the running regimen in the New Year, and any sense of monitoring our calories and nutrition go out the window. Yup, ‘tis the season of joyful feasting, and rather than castigating ourselves for slacking on our regular routine, I prefer to ensure we have perfect pairings to match our indulgences. • Canadian Winery Spotlight: Bench 1775 Winery

Formerly known as Soaring Eagle Estate Winery, Bench 1775 is now quite simply named after their gorgeous address on Naramata Road. When your spot and your view are as killer as Bench 1775’s, there’s not much need to gussy things up with a fancy or serious or profound name. Continue reading
