  • Canadian Winery Spotlight: Planters Ridge

Meet Nova Scotia's newest winery, Planters Ridge. Nova Scotia's wine scene has been gaining more attention recently, which we can chalk up to a rise in the number of great quality wines and a more unified vision and marketing around the wines (see Tidal Bay). But don't think just because you haven't heard much about Nova Scotian wine until recently that it's a new region. Vines have been grown here since the 1600s—among the first cultivated regions in North America. Planters Ridge is embracing the history of the land; the name references the fact that the farm was part of an original land grant by the Lieutenant Governor offered to the New England Planter families in 1760. • Canadian Winery Spotlight: C.C. Jentsch Cellars

    “Never heard of ‘em.”

It’s a familiar refrain to the mention of various new wineries that have popped up across the Canadian landscape over the last few years. Sure, it can be tough to keep up with every single winery that has set up shop; here in British Columbia we’re up and over 250 of them. It’s amazing though, the difference that a handful of big awards can make. Once those ringing endorsements come chiming in, many who might have been initially dismissive of a newer winery suddenly perk up and take notice. Continue reading

  • Merry Christmas from MWC!

In honour of Christmas, we wanted to share some MWC team poetry with you. 'Team poetry,' of course, means creative writing from members of the MWC team, hopefully with a rhythmic lilt, and always with the request for forgiveness ;-) So, with that, I say Merry Christmas to you from the MWC team as expressed in artful limericks, haiku, and more! • Canadian Winery Spotlight: Riverview Cellars

The Pillitteri name is at the heart of Riverview Cellars, a surname that is certainly familiar in the Niagara region and beyond. Gary Pillitteri and family’s eponymous wines – reds, whites as well as icewines – regularly garner good reviews and do well in competitions. Continue reading

  • Top Wine Picks! Sparkling Wine To Ring In 2016

Is celebrating New Year’s Eve with sparkling wine cliché?

In my opinion, it’s absolutely not calling it in to ring in the New Year with a little bubble. The crying shame is that we relegate sparkling wine to celebratory events, and ignore their food-friendliness and suitability to idle weekdays throughout the year. Today, I’m sharing five of my very favourite sparkling wines available right here on My Wine Canada, and while I’d love our audience to hop to it by putting in an order so these wines arrive on your doorstep before 2016 chimes in, I also encourage wine enthusiasts to keep popping these corks throughout the year.
