  • Pair It Up! Wine With Duck

For a moment, I felt like I was in a Seinfeld episode, or perhaps in the movie Groundhog Day. There was an unplanned recurring food theme during this past holiday: duck. That’s what I cooked on Christmas day and everywhere I went it was not turkey that people were serving but duck! I am not a big fan of the big bird so I was certainly not complaining. Duck can be prepared in many different ways and I had fun playing with wine pairings. Continue reading

  • Pair It Up! Wine & Rabbit

Like many food lovers, I am addicted to cookbooks. I can’t walk by the Cooking section at a bookstore without stopping to peruse. Which most certainly leads to a purchase. Despite the wide selection, there is one that I always go back to when I want to spend a few hours in the kitchen: Bones by Jennifer McLagan. Continue reading

  • Pair It Up! Cashews and Chardonnay

This year has been exceptionally busy with travel (yes, I love my job) and through such a hectic schedule, I started to notice that small things make a big difference. Habits that you repeat from one place to another start to comfort you. A home away from home. One of the simple pleasures during my latest travels has been to snack on cashews (and sometimes other nuts - specifically hazelnuts) and sip on Chardonnay. Continue reading

  • Top Wine Picks! The Season For Chardonnay

Chardonnay was on my mind last week during Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe our wine yearnings are a sort of basic instinct, but certain wines are just better suited to certain times of the year. I've been drinking almost exclusively rosé and light whites over the last four months (and I'll continue to drink them over the next eight), but for the first time in a while, I had a real craving for Chardonnay. Continue reading

  • Pair It Up! Perogies

With a little prodding from Kurtis, I began thinking about apt wine pairings for the kinds of Ukrainian dishes that my grandparents used to cook. Specifically perogies (or what most Ukrainians refer to as varenyky, and my family called petahe), which is a pocket of dough filled with potatoes and/or cheese. Continue reading

  • Wine 101: On B.C. Pinot Noir

We’re just around the corner from the third annual B.C. Pinot Noir Celebration, happening Saturday, August 22 in the Okanagan Valley. So what’s the scoop with the Celebration? In their own words… Continue reading

  • Wine 101: Cellaring On A Budget

Wine. This vast topic is both a symbol of pleasure and an intimidating subject. Meant to share and to celebrate life, wine also carries myths and snobbery. One of these myths is that one needs to be rich to have a wine cellar. Continue reading

  • Pair It Up! Tacos

There are very few dishes that I can think of that are simple, flavourful, easy to prepare, and highly addictive, all at the same time. Once you start eating one, the second one is not far behind. In case you haven't guessed it, I am talking about delicious tortillas filled with goodness: tacos! Continue reading
