I was late to the game in discovering Dan and Lynn Sullivan's winery, Rosehall Run, but since I first tasted their wines this spring, they have become one of my favourite wineries in Ontario. They're located in Prince Edward County and the first vintage was 2004. The fruit is grown on their 25-acre home vineyard and sourced from great growers in Prince Edward County and Niagara. Like many in the County, the Sullivans focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but grapes like Riesling, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah round out their portfolio. All of their wines on My Wine Canada are great, here are some notes on a few of them.

1) Rosehall Run 2014 Hungry Point Unoaked Chardonnay

This Chardonnay is gleaming with freshness. There is clear minerality and notes of apple, lemon, and chalk. It's unoaked, yet still with a lovely texture and weight from lees stirring. It finishes clean and bright. ($19.95, 13% alcohol)

2) Rosehall Run 2014 The Righteous Dude Riesling

The Sullivans source the fruit for the 2014 The Righteous Dude Riesling from a single block in Niagara’s Twenty Mile Bench appellation. There are layered notes of citrus and orchard fruits and lots of fresh acidity to balance the wine’s off-dry sweetness. ($19.95, 13% alcohol)

3) Rosehall Run 2012 JCR Pinot Noir

The JCR Pinot Noir is made with fruit from two vineyards on clay and limestone soils: the Rosehall Vineyard North Block and the Fieldstone Vineyard. The fruit notes are lifted, pure and vibrant — characters of cherry and strawberry with black pepper and subtle savoury notes. It's on the light side of medium bodied and the finish is long and lingering. A must-try Pinot from the County. ($39, 13% alcohol)
