Valentine's Day Deals

We've got lots to celebrate today! There's the big win for the Broncos in the Super Bowl last night. Plus today marks the start of Chinese Lunar New Year - Gong Hey Fat Choy and cheers to the Year of the Monkey! And in case we somehow forgot amidst the sea of heart-shaped commerce, Valentine's Day is this weekend. What better way is there to celebrate all these occasions than with wine deals? Here's what we've got for you, friends!

1.  Niagara's 13th Street Winery is getting into the swing of V-Day by offering a special on their Cuvée Rosé. Now only $22.95, this Traditional Method sparkling wine is a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Gamay and was aged for two years. It scored 90 points from Rick VanSickle who quoted "The nose shows fresh red berries, lovely yeasty-toasty notes and a subtle anise accent. The colour is a rich pink hue that is luminous in the glass with an energetic mousse. The flavours range from rich cherries and raspberries to bolder cranberry and toasted vanilla." This was a big seller last year at Valentine's - it pairs perfectly with chocolate dipped strawberries and romantic dinners.

2.  Free Shipping! Lang Vineyards AND Summerhill Pyramid Winery, both superb, family-owned wineries in the Okanagan Valley, BC are offering you free shipping on 6 bottles of wine or more. Choose 6 or more bottles of wine and the free shipping will be applied automatically at checkout! Feel free to mix bottles, but just make sure your 6+ bottles are all from the same winery (ie. either Lang or Summerhill).

a)  Lang Vineyards just celebrated 25 years of wine production, and are proud to be pioneers of the BC wine industry. Our Valentine's Day picks from their winery are below!

The 2014 Bravo White is an easy-going, charming blend of Riesling and Gewürztraminer. It has refreshing citrus fruit and peaches, floral notes, and honey.  At $16.50, the value is fantastic!

For something savoury and spicy, tuck into the 2013 Syrah. A lot of great Syrah came out of the Okanagan Valley in 2013. This vintage garnered Lang Vineyards a medal at the 2015 National Wine Awards. Pair it with grilled meats and Italian dishes. ($25/bottle)

b)  Summerhill Pyramid Winery is renown for their organic and biodynamic processes. They have helped to put Canadian sparkling wine on the international map with their exceptional, aged bubblies (yes, they have a Traditional Cuvée from 1996!) but their aromatic whites and sumptuous reds snap up the awards too.

Wine expert Ben MacPhee-Sigurdson featured Summerhill and their wine portfolio on the Blog. See why these wines below are his top picks!

2011 Blanc de Franc  NV Cipes Brut 2013 Organic Merlot      2014 Ehrenfelser

We couldn't resist adding one more…the 2014 Ehrenfelser (shown above).  Known as the "hot tub wine," this gorgeous white wine sipper wins the popular vote, but it also holds rank on its own with a nod from the Intervin Wine Awards last year. It's tropical, rich and kissed with sweetness - the perfect start to a special evening.

Happy Super-Lunar-Valentine's Day, folks!  Enjoy your wine :-)
