A boutique family business, Cornerstone Estate has been producing quality wines since 2002. Owner Jerry Kopanski calls upon his agricultural background to manage grape production at the winery. The grapes are handpicked and hand sorted, with effort concentrated on smaller production in order to yield the finest quality wines. Located in the heart of the beautiful Niagara Peninsula, Cornerstone Estate’s environment provides optimal surroundings for growing vines. Some of the most remarkable vineyards are based in the region, and Cornerstone is no exception. The winery offers a wonderful selection of white, red, ports, fruit wines, and award-winning icewines.

The My Wine Canada team had the pleasure of tasting Cornerstone’s wine selection. Here are our top picks! All of the wines below can be found in select wine club packages, so make sure to sign up!

Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Aged for 3 months in new American oak, this tantalizing white has aromas of pear, green apple and honeysuckle, and notes of nectarine, apricot, and orange blossom on the palate. A very pleasant white with a nice finish. Pair it alongside grilled salmon with asparagus, and scallops with lime juice and butter.

Chenin Blanc 2009

Chenin Blanc 2009

This delectable white was aged 10 months in stainless steel. Clear and bright, it has almond and hazelnut, tangerine, and a medley of tropical fruits on the nose. On the palate, notes of peach, nectarine, buttercream, vanilla and orange. Perfect to pair with lobster au gratin, or roasted pork belly with applesauce.

Pinot Noir 2016

Pinot Noir 2016

A well-balanced red with notes of red cherry, blackberry, black currant and black pepper. This wonderful wine will become more complex with age, so it’s recommended that you cellar it for 2-5 years. On the palate, raspberry, baking spice, sweet tobacco and forest floor. Pairs seamlessly with charcuterie and cheese boards, and lamb with fresh herbs.

Cabernet Franc 2012

Cabernet Franc 2012

A bold red, showing aromas of black cherry, vanilla, and green bell pepper. Blackberry, licorice and green vegetal notes round out the flavours on the palate. Very good quality, this Cabernet Franc is extremely pleasant to drink right now. Pair it with any red meat dish from grilled steak with Portobello mushrooms to bison burgers to beef stew.
