Husband and wife, Oleg and Svetlana Aristarkhov, decided to make a life changing move from Alberta to B.C. to fulfill a dream. They lived there for 15 years but instantly fell in love with the breathtaking views and setting of Moraine, where it sits high on a bluff, overlooking the beautiful Okanagan lake. The couple go by the belief that wine offers one of life’s most simple, enjoyable, and accessible pleasures. Their stunning location provides the grapes with a micro-climate of cooling breezes, ample sunlight, and ideal soil conditions, resulting in highly aromatic and flavourful wine.

We had the pleasure of tasting some of Moraine's wines and can assure you that you are getting excellent high quality wines full of flavour. Here are a few of our favourites from November’s wine club package:

2018 Cliffhanger White

Cliffhanger White

A beautiful blend of gewürztraminer and pinot gris, this is an aromatic medium-bodied wine with a minerally nose of lychee and grapefruit and notes of rose petal. Beautifully balanced with great tension between ripe fruit and fresh acidity. Enjoy now alongside grilled chicken thighs, apple cinnamon pork chops, and veal with lemon capers.

2018 Viognier

Viognier

This medium-bodied white wine is dry, elegant, and features classic viognier character.  It is fresh and lively on the palate with notes of white peach, lemon, and floral notes. Being aged in French oak for 4 months has given this wine a truly beautiful structure. Pair it with seared scallops with saffron cream sauce, honey glazed ham with Dijon mustard, and porchetta with maple-glazed parsnips.

2016 Red Mountain

Red Mountain

An exquisite blend of cabernet franc, malbec, and merlot. Deep ruby in colour, this medium to full-bodied wine drinks well now but will benefit from a year or two in the cellar. Aged in French oak for 20 months, this artfully blended wine has rich abundant flavours of fruit, smoke, and pepper. Enhance your meal with this wine by enjoying it with grilled flank steak with mint chimichurri sauce, creamy gorgonzola polenta, or spicy orange marmalade pork tenderloin.

2017 Syrah

Syrah

A flavourful full-bodied, dry wine, featuring rich flavours of mulberry and black cherry with a tobacco note on the palate. It received an outstanding 91 points from Tony Aspler. An excellent pairing with some favourite fall classic meals such as turkey burgers with zucchini and feta, veal osso bucco with gnocchi, and Cajun-spiced barbeque short ribs.

If you’ve never sipped on any B.C. wines before, this is the one winery you don’t want to miss out on! Sign up by November 15 to receive an incredible collection of wines from Moraine Estate Winery this month.
