My Wine Canada Wine Club Feature: Play Estate Winery

What started as a passion project among a group of friends and business partners has grown into a beautiful iconic and modern winery overlooking the Skaha Hills and Okanagan Valley. Opening Play Estate Winery was a dream for the Pechet family and their friend, sommelier Mohamed Awad. The family incorporated their love for fine arts and the theatre in both the design of the winery and in the names of many of the wines, making for a dramatic atmosphere at the winery and bold flavours in their wines. Their 14-acre vineyard on Skaha Hills Lake produces a variety of grapes including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Muscat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, and Sauvignon Blanc. They’re well known for their elegant blends which deliver a unique tasting experience that is full of flavour.
We sampled some of Play Estate’s amazing wines and loved what they have to offer. All of the wines below can be found in select Wine Club packages this month. Here are a few of our favourites:
A playful blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, this refreshing wine has notes of green plum, grapefruit, and minerality. Serve with fresh shellfish, sashimi, or spinach and goat’s cheese salad.
A fun and fruity Moscato, with a bright orange blossom nose. This white has a refreshing hint of effervescence with notes of tangerine and jasmine. Try it with salty appetizers, smoked Gouda cheese, and Thai yellow curry.
This rich blend of Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of cedar, dark berries, and herbal notes. Savoury blackberry flavours on the palate, with ripe tannins and a lively acidity. Pair it with barbecued rib eye steak, lamb with mint jelly, and jambalaya with Chorizo sausage.
A bold blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, this medium bodied wine has aromas of black currant, plum, cedar, and cigar box. On the palate, you’ll notice lovely vanilla, oak spice, and mocha chocolate flavours. This wine would be a great match for strong cheeses, barbecued steak, or meatballs in hearty tomato sauce.
