Quinta Ferreira's story began in 1979 when John and Maria Ferreira purchased an orchard. Both were born in Portugal and had immigrated to Canada at a young age, and for 20 years they produced apples, peaches and cherries on their Black Sage Bench estate. Meanwhile, their son Michael worked as a cellar hand. Through years of hard work under some of the Okanagan's top winemakers, he learned what goes into making premium wine, from vineyard to vino. John and Maria saw his enthusiasm, and shared a passion for wine themselves. They took a big leap, and began the 3-year process of converting the orchard to a vineyard, planting their first grapes in 1999. Ever since, their award-winning wines have reflected both their Portuguese heritage and the beautiful desert terroir of the Black Sage Bench.

Here are some of our top picks at My Wine Canada just a few of the fabulous bottles that our wine club members can expect at their door this month!

2014 Chardonnay

This beautiful expression of Chardonnay is far from typical. You'll love the richness of texture, with flavours of apple framed in notes of butterscotch, baking spice, and hazelnut. It's great on its own, or save it for Thanksgiving dinner – it will pair beautifully with everything from roast turkey stuffing to fresh apple pie.

2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

Dark berries and chocolate intermingle with exotic spices and black pepper in this rich and bold Cabernet Sauvignon. It's perfect for a laid-back but classy summer BBQ – think bison burgers, strong cheeses, charcuterie or game.

2012 Mistura Tinto

A rich and smoky blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. You'll taste bold and juicy dark fruits like black cherry and raspberry, with a sophisticated touch of black tea and velvety tannins. Micheal Ferreira's Portuguese roots are showing in this wine – it's full-bodied and well-oaked, with a pleasant balance of fruit and acidity. Enjoy with tomato-and-herb-based sauces and dishes like pasta or pizza.
