After immigrating to Canada from Ukraine, R.W. Roman shared his love of bees with his son, Eugene. Years later, Eugene got married and spent his honeymoon in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Him and his wife quickly fell in love with the region and what was once a promise to build a winery with his wife, blossomed into reality with Rosewood Estates Winery.
The passion for beekeeping and mead is evident at Rosewood and is a big part of what they do. They pride themselves on using local honey and keeping up with the craft the family loves in addition to crafting high quality wines. Rosewood is well-known and regarded for their handcrafted VQA Ontario wines, mead, and honey.
We were fortunate to taste some of their wines and can assure you that you are getting some special wines in this month's wine packs! Here a few of our favourites from January’s wine club package.
This beautiful medium-bodied, dry chardonnay features flavours of ripe apple and peach on the palate. Rich and mouth-filling, enjoy it with seared scallops, butternut squash risotto, and smoked trout salad with mustard dressing.
2016 Sans Heir Sauvignon Blanc
Rated an outstanding 90 points by Canadian wine expert Tony Aspler, this medium-bodied white wine is minerally on the nose, with succulent flavours of passionfruit and muscat on the palate. Pair it with pork tenderloin with pineapple salsa, grilled shrimp with garlic butter, and chicken tagine with apricots.
A beautifully balanced, unfiltered wine with raspberry and oak spice on the nose. Reminiscent of a Volnay, this burgundy-style pinot earned a whopping 91 points from Tony Aspler! An excellent pairing with beef carpaccio, beef wellington with gorgonzola, and mushroom and truffle risotto.
An excellent red blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, malbec, and petit verdot. This rich wine is well-balanced with notes of dark fruit on the nose and palate alongside black pepper and baking spice. Enjoy with filet mignon with béarnaise sauce and sautéed asparagus, braised short ribs, and veal chops with green peppercorn sauce.
