Bordertown’s signature red blend is comprised of the estate’s finest blocks of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, cropped low and meticulously farmed. Various lots were aged separately in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels. It showcases aromas and flavours of red and black fruits, dark chocolate, sandalwood and the wild herbs that grow amongst this region’s vineyards.

Appearance: Vibrant red throughout with a very concentrated core.
Nose: Minty red berry fruit, toasty oak, wet earth, forest floor notes.
Palate: Strawberry, dark cherry, blackberry, dried plum, anise, fennel top, cloves, black currants, wild sage.
Quality: A very good ode to the South Okanagan, can be enjoyed now or aged two to three years.
Food pairings: Meaty stews, barbecued chicken, Reuben sandwiches, vegetarian lasagna or chili, aged or smoky cheeses
Wine Writer’s Comment:
The Living Desert red is a worthy partner to Bordertown’s Living Desert White, in that it is less about pulling out individual tasting notes from the varieties it’s built from, but more the whole package in every bottle. This is the South Okanagan in the glass. We’re talking desert country in Bordertown’s Osoyoos home, cacti and rattlesnakes aren’t uncommon sights. With a desert climate comes plenty of heat, perfect for ripening the big, red varieties this wine is composed of. The fruit is juicy and bold, perfect for latching onto meaty dishes. While decanting the wine is recommended to unleash all of its flavours, the wine isn’t so fussy that the treatment is in any way required. Immediate pouring into stemless glassware would be just as enjoyable. Just give it a good swirl and dive in.
