Tasting Notes: A spectrum of fruit: from delicate perfumed cherry to a deeper cassis, intermingled with pencil shavings and savoury dried herbs, black licorice too, and an earthy undertone of good Niagara dirt. Plush in the mouth with fine rounded tannin providing a backstop to the fruit and a hint of dark chocolate just before the long earthy finish. Best 2018-2023.
Creekside’s reserve wines are not ‘baptized” at birth: rather, they must pass through a rigorous ageing and selection process barrel by barrel and if they’re not good enough we won’t bottle them. 2013 was a rainy growing season, so we were kinda surprised when this cab came in looking good, seemingly out of nowhere at the end of vintage. But then again it didn’t come out of nowhere, it came from our Queenston Road Vineyard on the St. David’s Bench. When it comes to ripening Cab-Sauv, not all of Niagara was created equal. So we kept the faith, and 20 months later QRV came through for us, and you, again
