Citrus and wet stone on the nose. Gotta get it in your mouth: it's a high-wire act, balancing sugar and citrus acidity on a razor's edge. Neither dry nor sweet, with intense and zesty lime flavours and the mysterious textures of minerality. Last year's vintage was awarded the prestigious Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in Ontario Wines.
Production Notes: 100% Riesling from the Marianne Hill Vineyard, just south of downtown Beamsville on the bench. Harvested October 16 at 19.1 °Brix with prominent acidity (YOW)!! Cold ferment in stainless steel. The ferment was stopped after about 3 weeks when we felt that residual sugar and acidity levels matched in a fair fight without too much alcohol fogging things up. Bottled April 4, 2016.
Food Pairings: Spicy food! Seriously: this style of Riesling is one of the few wines that can handle the hot stuff with panache. Think Southeast Asia. Or central Buffalo, if you prefer. Anything that came out of a body of water will do just fine, too.
