Canadian wine delivered right to your door!
Our Rusty Shed Chardonnay bottling is an expression of our best parcels of Chardonnay and our best barrels. The fruit is whole bunch pressed to yield only the purist juice then gently rolled to barrel for fermentation. In 2012 the fermentation was vigorous due to the heat of the season, and a decision whether to inhibit the secondary malolactic fermentation or to let the wine evolve further was made in November. This is a blend of predominantly (45%) of our clone 95 on 3309 rootstock with the balance coming from 3 distinct clone/rootstock selections. We are looking for elegance and power in The Rusty Shed Chardonnay.

MWCWine expert Kurtis Kolt wrote about this wine on the MWC Wine Blog: "I’m also happy to report that you in no way have to simplify the wine you’d normally pair with a creamy pasta dish. A nice Chardonnay, bursting with flavour and even a good lashing of oak will go along swimmingly as long as there’s decent acidity to cut through the dish’s richness. Think Flat Rock Cellars’ Rusty Shed Chardonnay or the 2012 vintage from Tantalus." You can read the whole post here: http://mywinecanada.com/wineblog/pair-chardonnay-pasta/
This was a featured wine from October's Wine Club
Name: 2012 The Rusty Shed Chardonnay
Winery: Flat Rock Cellars

Cases Produced: 655
Appearance: Clear, medium intense yellow core with slight green hue.
Nose: Clean, medium+ intense fruit aromas of baked apples, poached pear, sandalwood, lemon curd.
Palate: Dry, medium acid, medium+ body, caramelized apples, pear, wildflower honey, almonds, with hints of vanilla and spice on the finish.
Quality: This is very good quality Chardonnay with an impressive balance between freshness and richness. It's drinking well now, but will gain complexities if aged over the next 2-3 years.

Wine Writer's Comment:
Flat Rock Cellars' 'The Rusty Shed' is named in homage to an old shed that stands in the middle of their stunning 80-acre vineyard on Jordan Bench. It showcases the vineyard's best parcels of Chardonnay. The grapes are pressed as whole bunches and the juice is barrel fermented. With the nature of barrel fermenting, this wine is lees aged and stirred. As the wine matures, the barrels are tasted and the best are blended. The 2012 Rusty Shed Chardonnay won a gold medal from the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards. For a wine that has seen this much attention and love, this value is hard to beat.
