Description

The Rusty Shed represents a barrel selection of estate Chardonnays chosen for their full flavoured richness on the palate, textured with the subtleties of oak. When blending this wine we are looking for something with ageing potential that is not only going to be fresh and vibrant today, but also enjoyed for years to come.

Rich and creamy on the palate, but with enough acidity to give it great length and aging potential.

Tasting Notes

This was a featured wine in December's Wine Club package.

 

Geographical Indication: Niagara, Ontario

Vineyard: Estate vineyard

Cases Produced: 236

 

Appearance: Bright, clear. Straw-coloured core, lighter rim.

Nose:  Medium aromatic intensity. Creamed butter, hazelnuts and oak spice. Pear and citrus. Wildflowers.

Palate: Medium body, medium acid. The front is lively with pear, brioche, nuts, spice, and vanilla.

Food Pairing: Holiday dinner foods from roasted turkeys to latkes, shellfish in garlic butter sauce, Teriyaki-glazed salmon, polenta with Parmesan cheese, and cocktail party finger foods.

 

Comment:

 

The Madronich family of Ed and his son, Ed Jr., are behind the almost 2 decades old winery that perches on a hill in the Niagara Escarpment. They pair world-class vineyard management and vinification methods with the best winemaking equipment in the world and the result is outstanding. Early to adopt screwcaps over corks for their entire wine portfolio, they proudly lead the way in twisting caps in the industry.

 

This is a good quality Chardonnay. It’s showing lovely aromatics and a medium length finish, but 3-5 years in the cellar would gracefully relax the flavours on the palate and add complexity.
