The 2014 Portage Pinot Noir was made from fruit grown in our four Estate Prince Edward County vineyards, and each was block was harvested, processed and aged individually. The grapes were hand- picked and gently destemmed, before being fermented in small lots in the cellar. Following fermentation the wine flowed by gravity to French oak barriques, 25% of which were new. The wine remained in barriques for ten months, at which time the final blend was decided upon. Following settling and coarse filtration, the wine was bottled in August of 2015. Strawberry, raspberry and red cherry aromas lead the way on the nose, with hints of sweet spice and tomato leaf in the background. Freshly crushed ripe berries continue on the palate, with dried leaf, minerality and spice in the background. The mouthfeel is agreeably lean and silky smooth, with very fine tannin and great County acidity.

Very pale, pleasantly light and delicate, clean and red fruit flavoured County pinot with plenty of high-toned floral notes. This is toute en finesse, for fans of subtlety and delicacy; tannins are light and silky, acids sharp but balanced, and length comfortably above the average. Very pretty. Drink with a light chill over the next couple of years.
