SANDHILL ESTATE, HIDDEN TERRACE AND VANESSA VINEYARDS
Deep garnet colour with a lovely bouquet of dark plum, black cherry, roasted coffee beans, baking spice, sweet oak and dark chocolate. This is a dry, full-bodied wine with soft drying tannins and a juicy, smooth mouth-feel. Baked plum, black fruits and spice fill the mouth. The extra-dry lingering finish shows notes of black tea, cocoa, spice and blackberry.
Enjoy with peppercorn steaks; braised meats; spiced London broils; red meats in rich reductions; winter stews; game meats; short ribs; beef brisket; saucy barbecued ribs; Beemster 18-month aged Gouda.
A cool, wet spring gave way to a late start to the growing season, which led directly into a hot summer with a record-breaking dry spell. This accelerated the ripening, bringing the fruit back on track. September brought cooler weather, slowing the ripening and allowing a good window for picking. This resulted in wines that are more balanced with lower alcohols and higher natural acidity. Overall, the 2017 vintage was lower in heat units than 2016 but still higher than average.
