Description

With a nod to white Burgundy, our Chardonnay aims to bridge Old World elegance with New World charm.

A beautiful pale Meyer lemon in colour, our 2014 vintage offers a wonderfully complex nose of jasmine, lemon zest and buttered caramel popcorn. The palate bursts with lemon cream, salted caramel and tangerine balanced with bright Gala apple and hints of apricot. The wine finishes with a crisp, refreshing acidity and a lingering minerality.

Our Block 6 Chardonnay sits on an eastern aspect in the northern portion of our vineyard. Consisting of 1985 Oppenheim plantings and a younger component of Dijon clones planted in 2007, the varying age of vine offers us great complexity.

The 2014 vintage spent 11 months in a combination of new and seasoned French barriques and puncheons. Although effortlessly enjoyed in its youth, this Chardonnay will develop beautifully for years for those patient enough to cellar it.

The 2014 growing season has been classified as one of the warmest on record. Interestingly enough, it produced an outcome that most of us don’t normally associate with hot weather – a slowing of the grape ripening process. This happens when daytime temperatures rise above 35C. The vines shift into a protective mode and go dormant. A chilly September finished out the ripening phase in a truly, cool season fashion. As a result, the wines from this vintage are decidedly bright and complex.
