The 2014 Sketches Chardonnay is a medium-bodied blend, crafted from hand-harvested fruit carefully sourced from select Niagara Peninsula vineyards, which truly showcases the 2013 vintage. Each lot was individually fermented using indigenous yeasts and aged 12 months in French oak. The nose expressive with vibrant notes of red apple, honeydew melon and a hint of white flower. Similar notes replay on the palate complemented by lively acidity and some baking spice notes from the oak.
With its refreshing apple and melon notes, lush body and well-integrated oak, this medium-bodied Chardonnay pairs beautifully with seafood, poultry and richer vegetable based dishes. Try it with a seafood chowder, roast chicken with root vegetables or a spinach and butternut squash lasagna with a béchamel sauce.
Awards & Ratings
This maturing chardonnay is showing a fairly complex nose with buttered toast, nutmeg, garlic and baked apple fruit. It sits nicely on the palate, well balanced by fresh acidity of the cooler 2014 vintage, moderated alcohol and some viscosity. Flavour intensity and length are impressive for the price. Some dusty, spicy wood on the finish. Tasted June 2018
