Winemaking Notes: The result of the long, dry and hot 2012 growing season are red wines of concentrated and rich flavours; this Merlot is no exception. The nose is rich with toasted cedar wood and black current. Herbal notes are forward on the palate, followed by shy fruit, well rounded tannins and a long finish.
Growing Conditions: David’s Block estate vineyard, certified organic and biodynamic. Viticultural practices included vertical shoot positioning, shoot thinning, cluster thinning, hand-leaf removal and hand- harvest.
This is the second last vintage of Merlot from this Estate Vineyard planted in 1999. Sadly the Merlot from David’s Block was lost due to the extreme cold early in 2014. The 2012 growing season was long and dry with higher than average temperatures.
Food Pairing: One of the fullest bodied reds in our portfolio, this wine will benefit from aging but will pair lovely with bacon wrapped beef tenderloin or a rack of lamb with cherry au jus.

Although it's from a warmer year in Niagara this is clearly a cool-climate merlot, a lovely wine where the fruit has not over-ripened and comes through light, fresh, and layered on the palate. It's fairly concentrated nonetheless and shows good structure, and it's supported by clean, well-measured acidity. The tannins are quite integrated now, but contribute to the very dry finish. Drink now to 2020.
