Description

Perfectly ripe fruit was harvested from our estate late September, by hand. Wild-fermented and put to barrel half-way through the ferment. All-French barrels were used — 33% 2nd fill, 17% 3rd fill, 50% neutral French oak in both 225L and 500L sizes. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with only minimal sulphurs at bottling.

Creamy lemon aromatics with light notes of caramel this wine is more full bodied from the heat of the 2018 growing season. A classic minerality runs through the palate with medium acidity and a rich body from extended lees contact.

Here's a very elegant, refined and tightly woven chardonnay that scores on balance, complexity and length. Not overtly aromatic but the aromatics are a fine fusion of toast, nutmeg, breadcrust and vague dried apple fruit. Mid-weight, very even and lively yet showing some chardonnay richness as well. Hints of oxidation but it plays very well. The length is excellent to outstanding. This is non-obvious, beguiling, palate pleasing chardonnay. Tasted Feb 2020

Appearance: Pale lemon in colour.
Nose: Smoky, minerally, citrus nose with toasty oak notes.
Palate: Very Burgundian in style; medium-bodied, dry, lightly reductive, lemon and green apple flavours; beautifully balanced with a lovely mouth-feel with green pineapple and green peach flavours.
Quality: Outstanding. 92 points. Drink now or hold 2 – 3 years.

 

Food Pairing: Steamed halibut with watercress and orange sauce, creamy lobster linguine, turkey and roasted red pepper aioli panini, lemon chicken with grilled bok choy, and Ahi poké with black rice and heirloom tomatoes.
