Marynissen Estates
Located in the Four Mile Creek sub-appellation of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Marynissen Estates Winery is a staple of the Niagara wine community. The winery is known for its premium VQA wines while maintaining affordability. Using gentle grape handling throughout the process, they’re committed to small-lot winemaking that highlights their wines in a rustic yet modern style.
Marynissen is notable for going against the grain by planting cabernet sauvignon at a time when many believed the grape couldn’t thrive in the Canadian climate. Now, in 2025, Marynissen has the oldest cabernet sauvignon vines in Canada and several award-winning wines from this grape varietal under its belt.
Looking ahead, Marynissen remains focused on honoring its founders while harnessing the spirit of their traditions to drive innovation.

2021 Platinum Series Merlot
Marynissen’s Platinum Series showcases the unique expression of Niagara with a series of wines made from the best vineyards across the region.
One entry in this collection is the 2021 Merlot, which features deep notes of black cherry, baking spice, cocoa nib, and a hint of sweet tobacco. These aromas are followed by flavours of plum and black raspberry with well-integrated oak and ripe tannins. It pairs beautifully with eggplant caponata or bottom round beef roast with mushrooms.
2022 Heritage Collection Gewürztraminer
The Heritage Collection is a tribute to the traditions established by Marynissen’s founders. This series sets an intention to create innovative wines in the spirit of the founders’ vision.
The 2022 Gewürztraminer has inviting aromas of apricot, lychee, and rose water with a hint of ginger and clove. On the palate, tantalizing notes of nectarine, pear, and orange emerge leading to a beautifully balanced finish. Enjoy it alongside warmed camembert with roasted red pepper and artichoke tapenade or spiced duck curry.

2021 Platinum Series Chardonnay
The 2021 Chardonnay is a full-bodied white that puts its best foot forward with alluring aromas of toffee, quince, lemon curd, and caramel. The palate is rich and buttery with notes of yellow apple, butterscotch, and baking spice. Pair it with creamy smoked salmon penne or tabbouleh-inspired chickpea burgers.
The 2021 Nanny’s Blend pays tribute to the matriarch of the Marynissen family, Adrianna “Nanny” Marynissen, who loved full-bodied red wines.
This outstanding red is a blend of merlot, cabernet franc, and syrah. It features notes of black plum, blackcurrant, and black pepper on the nose and palate. Rated 91 points by Tony Aspler, try this gem with filet mignon with pan-sauce Bordelaise or chiles en nogada (picadillo-stuffed poblano chiles with walnut cream sauce).
2022 Cabernet Franc
The 2022 Cabernet Franc has a savoury bouquet of black cherry, roasted red pepper, and baking spice. One sip will reveal a rich and structured palate with firm tannins and flavours of blackberry, dark chocolate, and savoury green herbs. A great pairing with pizza with Italian sausage and crispy chard or roasted chicken with rosemary and tarragon.
