13th Street started in 1998 as a side project between four wine-loving friends. The Whitty and Mann families took it over and moved it to St. Catharines in 2009, onto land the Whittys have farmed for three generations. It's as much a day out as a winery, with a bakery in the old farmhouse and a sculpture garden out back.

The story behind 13th Street Winery

13th Street started in 1998 as a side project between four wine-loving friends. The Whitty and Mann families took the reins and moved it to its current St. Catharines home in 2009, on land the Whittys have farmed for three generations.

It has grown into a boutique estate that is as much a day out as a winery. There is a bakery in the old farmhouse and an art gallery with a sculpture garden out back.

Cool-climate wines in Creek Shores

The estate sits in the Creek Shores sub-appellation, with some vines going back to 1976. Winemaker Jean-Pierre Colas came to 13th Street in 2009 with roots in Chablis, and the house style leans cool-climate and precise.

Sparkling is a real strength here, led by the traditional-method Premier Cuvee, alongside Gamay, Chardonnay, and Riesling. At the 2022 National Wine Awards of Canada, 13th Street was named the top winery in Ontario.
