Chardonnay

Ripe and fruity with notes of golden apples, lemon cream and honeysuckle. On the palate it is rich but refreshing with flavours of ripe yellow pear, salted butter, butterscotch and light minerality. The finish is long with savoury notes refreshing the palate.

Serve chilled with rich seafood such as pasta with lobster and fennel cream sauce. Let the glass warm up a bit for further complexities to develop.

 VINTAGE NOTES

Late winter and early spring had higher than average temperatures leading to an early bud break on May 10th (one week earlier than last year). The high temperatures continued through spring leading to rapid canopy development, flowering and fruit set. The heat continued through the summer with just enough rain to refresh the vines. Harvest began in late August with Chardonnay for sparkling. After a two week break due to excessive rain, harvest continued throughout late September and early October with aromatic whites and lighter reds. Harvest continued throughout October and November with later ripening reds, ending with Cabernet Sauvignon in late November. Overall, yields were moderate due to thorough sorting and preventative management. Wines should be drunk on release or cellared for the medium-term.

Appearance: Bright golden straw.
Nose: Toasty, spicy, peach, and apple bouquet.
Palate: Medium-bodied, dry, apple flavour with well-integrated oak. Good length with a touch of lemon peel bitterness on the finish for added interest.
Quality: Very Good+. 88.5 points. Drink now and through 2021.

 

Food Pairing: Halibut with roasted pine nut crust, pumpkin and ricotta bruschetta, creamy tagliatelle pasta with prawns, stuffed acorn squash with ground turkey and apples, and caramelized onion, apple & brie flatbread.
