London Born Wine Co.
London Born is run by the Hoare family, originally from London, England, near Beamsville on the Niagara Escarpment. The family bought the farm in 2007, when it grew Concord grapes for juice.
They pulled most of those vines, kept two rows for posterity, and planted vinifera, with first vintages in 2010. Gamay, Cabernet Franc and Riesling are the core, alongside Maréchal Foch vines more than fifty years old.

Groundwork before the first vinifera vine
Before any vinifera went in the ground, the Hoares put in drainage and irrigation across the north end of the farm. That groundwork is why the vinifera plantings actually took, rather than a straight swap of one vine for another.
The old Maréchal Foch vines
Most of the estate is under twenty years old, but the Maréchal Foch is different. Those vines are more than fifty years old.
The family kept them rather than pulling them with the rest, so the fruit they give now is small in volume and concentrated.
Where to find London Born wine
One of these bottles already has real outside validation. The Chardonnay Musque was awarded gold in 2023, judged by the Ontario Wine Awards panel.
Gamay and Riesling are the easiest starting points, with Cabernet Franc next once you want something firmer. None of it needs a permission slip from a liquor board.

The story behind London Born
London Born carries the Hoare family's roots in London, England, right there in the name. The winery began as Aure Wines back in 2007, then took on the London Born name as the family grew the brand.
Home is a hillside vineyard on the Vinemount Ridge, above Vineland in the Niagara Escarpment.
Small-batch Niagara wines
The wines are made in small batches from grapes grown entirely in Ontario, with Gamay and Riesling among the mainstays. There are rose and blended wines too, under a London House label.
The newer tasting building leans green, with a living roof, passive solar heating, and rainwater harvesting. A Chardonnay Musque took gold at the 2023 Ontario Wine Awards.
