The Story of Ferox
Ferox was established in 2016 by Fabian Reis, a sixth-generation winemaker, and his wife Stephanie, a sommelier. Fabian chose the name Ferox, which in Latin means “fierce,” to pay tribute to his winemaking lineage and his commitment to producing bold, premium wines.
Ferox is located at the previously-known Vignoble Rancourt Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, which the couple purchased in 2018. Since purchasing the property, they have made sustainability a key part of their winemaking philosophy. The winery emphasizes long-term quality and consistency which involves a minimalistic, precise, and sustainable approach. Ferox’s sustainability philosophy is broken down into three pillars: economics, environment, and community. Ferox is proud to be Sustainable Winegrowing Ontario Certified.
Ferox has become known for its Bordeaux varietal wines such as cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. But they also produce spectacular bottlings of sauvignon blanc, riesling, and chardonnay.

2020 Cabernet Franc
This deep ruby-purple cabernet franc has aromas of cedar, ripe plum, and oak spice. Medium-bodied and well-balanced, it features ripe tannins with well-integrated oak, finishing on an earthy undertone. Aged for 24 months in neutral oak barriques, this vintage pairs well with Mediterranean lamb burgers or spinach and ricotta ravioli.
2023 Sauvignon Blanc
The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc offers vibrant aromas of gooseberry and lemon. On the palate, it’s crisp and refreshing with flavours of grapefruit and green plum. Rated 91 points by Tony Aspler, enjoy it with baked falafel bites with cucumber sauce or Montreal smoked meat sandwich.
2017 Merlot Cabernet
The 2017 Merlot Cabernet is the perfect red to complement a cozy dinner at home. We suggest cheeseburgers with sautéed onions and mushrooms or lamb biryani. Aged for 24 months in mostly new French barrels, this merlot-dominant blend has ripe tannins with notes of red plum, black berry fruit, and baking spice on the palate with a velvety mouthfeel. Drink now or hold through 2026.
2022 Chardonnay
If you’re in the mood for a quality unoaked chardonnay, we can confidently say it doesn’t get much better than this Ferox bottling. The 2022 Chardonnay is a beautifully balanced wine. It has a leesy, apple bouquet followed by flavours of citrus fruit and green apple. It has a fine spine of acidity and will pair well with shaved brussels sprouts salad with creamy maple dressing or herb-crusted pork tenderloin.
