Haywire was established in 2009, with the first tiny crop harvested at Switchback Organic Vineyard, starting life as a virtual brand. Today, Haywire has grown into its own as an anchor attraction in Summerland, BC, unveiling a bold new label and a relaxing new visitor lounge spring 2023. Haywire celebrates the Okanagan’s exceptional terroir, embracing a “less is more” style, utilizing state-of-the-art concrete tanks and a gentle winemaking hand.

WINEMAKING
100% Pinot Noir from four vineyards provides a snapshot of this variety from all regions of the Okanagan. 50% whole cluster and 50% whole berry, naturally fermented for an average of four weeks before being basket pressed to concrete tanks and foudre for ageing. A beautiful wine with savoury nuances, excellent palate weight and framed with soft tannins. Pairs with light protein or mushroom dishes and soft cheese.

Connoisseur Note(s):

2021 is a blended pinot noir from four vineyards across the Okanagan Valley. Winemakers Matt Dumayne and Kat D’Costa do a 50/50 mix of whole cluster fruit and whole berry, naturally fermented for an average of four weeks before being basket pressed to concrete tanks and foudre for ageing. A beautiful 12.5 percent alcohol, true cool-climate pinot, light in colour, that opens with an enticing juicy black raspberry mixed with baking spice and a dusting of smoke. The mid-palate is fresh and lively with youthful but soft tannins that disappear into the silky finish. So pretty, elegant, and drinkable, it is as stylish as it gets for the price. Haywire was established in 2009, with its first tiny harvest at Switchback Vineyard, starting life as a virtual brand. Today, the winery is an anchor tenant of the Summerland wine scene, with a new visitor lounge scheduled to open in April 2023.  90 points — Anthony Gismondi
