Our Bella Terra Merlot is the newest addition to our Bella Terra Reserve Reds! It starts off with aromas of black fruit and spice character followed by ripe plums with hints of violet, bay leaf, and dark chocolate. To taste, this extra dry wine with polished tannins has a balanced acidity. Layered with flavours like ripe black cherries and blackberries followed by cacao and coffee, finishing with an elegant velvet feel.

Food pairing: Steak au Poivre.

This Merlot and the reds that follow are all from the “reserve” tier at Bella Terra and sourced from estate vineyards. All four wines are aged in French oak barrels (and some American oak) for 20 months. The Merlot has an attractive nose of plums, black cherries, a touch of cassis and black currants, with rich spice notes and pepper. There is firm tannic structure on the palate in support of ripe red fruits, lifted florals, cassis, touch of smoke, elegant spice notes, and length through a finessed, vibrant finish. Can cellar 7+ years. All these reds are finished at 14.9 abv.

    Appearance: Semi-opaque. Dark ruby colour.
    Nose: Violets, black cherry, blackberry, green pepper, black pepper.
    Palate: Medium acid, medium+ tannin, medium body. Black cherry, blackcurrant, green pepper, earth, savoury green herbs, black pepper.
    Quality: 91 points – Wine Club Canada. Outstanding.

    Food Pairing: Buffalo chicken pizza, pumpkin and bacon pasta with garlic crumbs, filet mignon with chive butter, baked penne with roasted vegetables, and pulled pork rolls with apple and radish coleslaw.
