Description from the Producer
92 PTS — Rick VanSickle “…Shows a lighter shade of red in the glass, but didn’t skip a beat on the nose, with a melange of red berries, black currants and sweet oak spices, subtle savoury notes and mulled herbs. There is some structure on the palate and some tannic grip with integrated raspberries, cherries and red currants, herbs, anise and spice on a lifted, fresh finish. Harvested in late October from the Wingfield Vineyard from vines approaching 28 years. Fermented on skins for 10 days with punchdowns. Pressed and put to barrel, a mix of 45% new French and Hungarian oak barrels and 55% neutral oak (78% French and 22% Hungarian overall). Aged for three years to increase concentration and tannin. Bottled unfined and with an addition of lees for mouthfeel and body. Characteristically Cabernet Franc from Ontario in a cool year! Dusty cherries, almonds and graham crackers. Like a black forest cake drenched in kirsch liqueur. The palate is silken from the lees in bottle. Rustic tannins, a bright acidity and very cherry finish. Best 2025-2030.
