PondView's story begins in 1965 when Giuseppe Puglisi emigrated to Canada. He brought with him a rich family history of grape-growing and winemaking in Italy and settled into the heart of Niagara wine country, planting their first grapes in 1974. The now 50 acre vineyard is run by his son, Lou Puglisi, who has embraced his family's traditions. This, along with a dedication to producing excellent wines, has led PondView to earn a great reputation in Niagara for producing an assortment of award-winning red, white, sparkling, and icewines.
We had the pleasure of tasting PondView's remarkable wines and are thrilled for you to try them. Here are some of our favourite picks that are featured in December's wine club packages.
This medium-bodied white received an outstanding 91 point rating from wine expert Tony Aspler. Beautifully balanced with passionfruit and gooseberry flavours on the palate with a long fresh finish. A perfect pairing with pistachio-crusted scallops or roasted butternut squash.
2019 Bella Terra Wild Ferment Riesling
A light- to medium-bodied white with delicate floral aromatics. Enjoy lively notes of lime and grapefruit in this tantalizing riesling. Excellent alongside an oven-roasted chicken breast with beurre blanc sauce or a mushroom enchilada casserole.
2016 Bella Terra Cabernet Sauvignon
A complex red that showcases aromas of cedar, black cherry, plum, and oak spice. Medium-bodied with rich notes of dark chocolate and plum on the palate. Try it with an aged cheddar cheeseburger or a venison meatball sub.
2016 Bella Terra Cabernet Franc
This is a superb cabernet franc with a touch of merlot. Well-structured and dry with prominent notes of cedar, spice, cherry, and tobacco. Enjoy with a brisket poutine or spiced chicken tortilla soup.
