Purple garnet colour with a lovely, aromatic bouquet of baked blue plum, blueberry, sweet spice, violet, sweet oak, vanilla and chocolate. This medium to full-bodied wine has smooth, silky tannins and food-friendly acidity. On the palate, look for juicy black cherry, blackberry and black currant fruit flavours, along with hints of spice and chocolate. The lingering finish shows notes of juicy dark fruits, spice, coffee and charred wood.
A wonderful wine for cool evening sipping. Pairs well with grilled steaks with a chimichurri sauce; Tuscan steak on bed of arugula; rich meat pies; Tourtiere with tangy, but not sweet, chili sauce; beef bourguignon; chorizo and black bean empanadas; peppercorn steaks; Shepherd’s pie; Irish stew; lightly spiced turkey black bean chili; roasted beets.
A cool, wet spring gave way to a late start to the growing season, which led directly into a hot summer with a record breaking dry spell. This accelerated the ripening, bringing the fruit back on track. September brought cooler weather, slowing the ripening and allowing a good window for picking. This resulted in wines that are more balanced with lower alcohols and higher natural acidity. Overall, the 2017 vintage was lower in heat units than 2016 but still higher than average.
“The very low yields in our Osprey Ridge Vineyard give a rich and concentrated, fruit-forward, slightly floral character to our Malbec. Previous vintages have been acknowledged as the best Malbec in British Columbia.”
