Gold Hill is a family-operated winery in the South Okanagan, established in 2009 by the Gill brothers, who had already farmed the valley for three decades by then.

The focus is Bordeaux varieties suited to the heat down there, with Cabernet Franc as the flagship. Their first release, a 2009 Cabernet Franc, took the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in BC Wines.

The story behind Gold Hill

Gold Hill is a Gill family winery, started in 2009 on the Golden Mile bench near Oliver. The Gill brothers came to the Okanagan from Punjab, India, in the 1980s to join family already farming the valley.

They planted a 24-acre estate high on the fruit bench and set out to make honest, well-priced reds.

Cabernet Franc, above its price

Cabernet Franc is the flagship, grown entirely on the estate and aged around 18 months in French oak. There is a top blend called Grand Vin, plus Merlot, Syrah, and Pinot Gris.

Winemaker Val Tait, with three decades in the valley, has made the estate Cabernet Franc every year since the first vintage. That first 2009 Cabernet Franc won a Lieutenant Governor's Award, one of BC's top wine honours.
