GreenLane Estate Winery

GreenLane Estate sits along the Niagara Escarpment in the Twenty Valley.

There is no fixed recipe here. Each vintage gets handled on its own terms, and some bottlings run as small as 25 cases. Lots that size mostly go to people who turn up at the winery or join the society, rather than out to the trade.

The story behind GreenLane

GreenLane is a boutique Vineland winery in the Twenty Valley, on a property once part of the Wayne Gretzky Estate Winery. It took over those mature vineyards and has been making VQA wine under its own name since around 2009.

It stays small and independent, the kind of winery you find rather than get pointed to.

Built around Riesling

GreenLane hangs its hat on Riesling, which the cool Twenty Valley grows about as well as anywhere in Ontario. Winemaker Dianne Smith works in small batches across the range.

Beyond the Riesling there are Chardonnay, Cabernet, and both tank and traditional-method sparkling wines. The vines on the estate go back to around 1990, so there is some age in the fruit.
