Joseph's Estate Wines

Joseph's Estate Wines is a family winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake that opened its doors in 1996.

The 20-acre vineyard sits in the Four Mile Creek sub-appellation on sandy soil, where the roots push down close to 18 feet. Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Vidal for icewine are the flagships. The reds are barrel-aged, then blended across new and older vintages.

Every bottle ships straight from the winery.

The story behind Joseph's Estate

Joseph's Estate was the last chapter in the long career of Dr. Joseph Pohorly, one of Niagara's true wine pioneers. He had already founded the winery that became Hillebrand and made its first icewine, before opening Joseph's Estate in Niagara-on-the-Lake in the 1990s.

Pohorly, who died in 2020, poured decades of experience into this estate, and icewine stayed close to its heart.

A pioneer's icewine estate

The house specialty is Vidal Icewine, made from grapes left to freeze on the vine, and it has carried the estate's reputation for years. The rest of the range covers the full run of Ontario VQA reds and whites.

Everything is made from 100 percent Ontario grapes on a compact Niagara-on-the-Lake estate. The icewines have collected international trophies over the years.
