The Roost vineyard and winery is located in the heart of The Blue Mountains. It is a fantastic place to experience cold-climate wines in a spectacular setting.

Husband and wife team Michael and Jessica Maish run the winery, from the tending of the vines - which were planted in 2013 and 2014 - to making the wine itself. After spending several years travelling, the couple decided to come home to roost on a property that has been in the family since the 1970s. Their passion and dedication to the business is reflected not only in the sophisticated and unique taste of their wines but also in the overall experience that they have created for their visitors.

The story behind The Roost

The Roost is a family winery in The Blue Mountains, above the Beaver Valley near Georgian Bay. Jessica and Michael Maish planted the first vines around 2013 on a property their family has owned since the 1970s, and opened the winery in 2017.

Both trained for it. Jessica studied oenology and Michael studied viticulture at Washington State University, then came home to start a winery in one of Ontario's youngest wine regions.

Cold-climate grapes, done by hand

Georgian Bay is cold, so The Roost grows hardy hybrids that can take a real winter rather than fussy vinifera. The estate works with L'Acadie, Marquette, and Frontenac Blanc.

Everything is small-batch, sustainably farmed, and low-intervention, with the couple doing most of the work themselves from vine to bottle. The wines have held their own at competitions, including a double gold for the Frontenac at the 2023 All Canadian Wine Championships.
