Cabernet Franc 2023, Kacaba Vineyards

WINEMAKERS NOTES: After a number of award-winning vintages, we realize that Cabernet Franc forms the backbone of the Kacaba red wine lineup. Hence the fruit, from our estate vines, is treated with kid gloves. Cabernet Franc tends to be vigorous; therefore, we hard prune these vines to reduce the yield and increase the colour and flavours. The bunches were also hand thinned to retain only premium quality fruit. All grapes were crushed and transferred to stainless steel fermenters then fermented to dryness. Each day, the Cabernet Franc was pumped over 2-3 times to ensure maximum colour and Flavour extraction. The resulting wine was then pressed and transferred to a mixture of French and American oak barrels in readiness for malolactic fermentation and consequent barrel aging.

TASTING NOTES: Red wine enthusiasts will appreciate the quality of Cabernet Franc in 2023. The extended growing season contributed to the development of ripe and concentrated fruit flavours, while the cooler nights during the growing season helped retain the acidity in these red grapes. Expect a beautiful combination of red and black fruit notes, well-integrated tannins, and a hint of the characteristic peppery spice.
