The story behind Rosewood Estates

Rosewood is a winery, a meadery, and an apiary all at once, and the bees came first. The Roman family has kept bees since 1932, and a long-held dream of making honey wine finally came together when they planted on the Beamsville Bench in 2000.

The winery opened in 2008. Honey and wine have shared the estate ever since, which is still a rare thing to find in Niagara.

Winemaker Ryan Corrigan joined in 2016 and works in a low-intervention style. The wines to know are the off-dry Sussreserve Riesling and the single-vineyard Semillon, with Pinot Noir and Merlot on the red side.

Then there is the mead. Rosewood keeps around 300 hives across the region, and that honey becomes mead alongside the wine. It was the first grape and honey winery in Ontario certified by Sustainable Winemaking Ontario.
