The story behind Okanagan Crush Pad

Okanagan Crush Pad opened in Summerland in 2011 as something new for Canada: a purpose-built winery that made wine for other labels as well as its own. Christine Coletta and Steve Lornie built it, and Christine had made the first Haywire wines a couple of years earlier.

From that custom-crush start grew two well-known brands of its own, Haywire and Narrative.

Raised in concrete

Okanagan Crush Pad helped bring concrete-tank winemaking to Canada, fermenting and ageing wine in big egg-shaped concrete vessels rather than steel or oak. Many of its wines carry a Raised in Concrete note for exactly that reason.

The farming is organic and the winemaking low-intervention, leaning on wild yeast and a light touch. A Haywire Pinot Noir earned a Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in BC Wines.
