Each bottle of Sandhill wine is made from grapes that come from one of six unique BC vineyards - Sandhill Estate, Hidden Terrace, Rocky Ridge, Casorso Family, Osprey Ridge, and Vanessa Vineyard. Each and every vineyard possesses its own magical combination of soil type, microclimate, exposure, drainage and other geographical idiosyncrasies. The complex, subtle, unique character of each vineyard reveals itself in your glass.

Our winemaking techniques are designed to enhance, not interfere with, the naturally occurring fruit flavors in our wines. Two words you will hear frequently from Sydney Valentino to describe her winemaking technique are "gentle" and "non-interventionist." Great fruit, helped along only when necessary using a soft touch, will result in great single vineyard wine from BC.

The story behind Sandhill

Sandhill started in 1997 as an idea ahead of its time in BC: make every wine from a single, named vineyard. It works out of the historic downtown Kelowna site of Calona Wines, one of the oldest wineries in the province.

Founding winemaker Howard Soon built the reputation over decades, and it has become one of BC's best-known single-vineyard labels.

Single vineyards, small lots

The heart of Sandhill is its Small Lots program, tiny bottlings from specific vineyards, including grapes that were rare in BC when it started, like Sangiovese and Barbera. Each wine is meant to taste of one place.

Howard Soon, one of Canada's longest-serving winemakers, ran the cellar for many years before handing it on. The winery was named Canadian Winery of the Year in 2009.
