Description from the Producer
VQA Lincoln Lakeshore
TASTING NOTES: Green straw colour with Intense aromas and flavours of granny smith apple, fresh pineapple and melon some spicy notes. Well balanced with fresh citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon rind on the finish.
WINEMAKER’S NOTES: Follow a fairly normal winter spring seemed to arrive quite quickly at the end of March. Through April we had warm sunny days which encouraged bud break a few days earlier than normal. May was relatively dry with some optimal rains gave us a great start to the growing season. Summer moved along with long dry spells and hot conditions. right through until the beginning of September. Things were looking great with really good flavours in the grapes and harvest looked to be getting close. Then came the rains and humidity which caused some concerns with disease pressure and having to work around some not so great conditions for harvest. However, I think by the time harvest was all in the flavours were great and the wines were nicely balanced.
Grapes for this wine were harvested from an older block of Sauvignon Blanc at the Lizak Vineyard in Beamsville. Close to the shores of Lake Ontario giving just a cooler growing conditions and slower ripening allowing for wonderful development of flavour in the grapes. Grapes were mechanically harvested and optically sorted on the harvester. There was 24 hours of skin contact before the grapes were crushed and pressed. After cold setting the juice, it was transferred into neutral French oak barrels for fermentation using a selected yeast. After 9 months of aging in barrel the wine was transferred to stainless steel tanks, filtered and bottled.
