Stratus Syrah, 2019

The Stratus 2019 Syrah has a profoundly savoury nose of red currant, bergamot, sandalwood, dried lilac and toasted clove. There are distinct notes of sweet chewy black fruit, pomegranate, black tea, dried chile pepper and artichoke on the palate. However, the classicly rich black pepper is the most distinctive note on the nose and palate. The lovely rich mid-palate leads to hints of blood orange on the full finish.

Growing Conditions: The year began with mild conditions that followed with a winter full of signifi cant weather variability including extreme cold and heavy snowfall, rapid thaw in March was the primary weather story of the spring. Budbreak in most areas had a slight delay; however, fl owering occurred quickly as the grapevines accelerated to make up for the late start. July was warm and sunny, punctuated by three short but intense heat waves. Two signifi cant rainfalls occurred in the month, maintaining soil moisture and supporting developing vines. August was warm and intermittently stormy, leading into a comparatively average September. Consistent and average conditions completed the summer and allowed for a stable and phased-in harvest.
