Strewn Winery

Strewn has been making wine in Niagara-on-the-Lake for over twenty years, from its own vineyards and a network of sixteen local growers.

The ten-acre property was once the Niagara Canning Company, a hub for local farmers and a serious employer in the 1940s. Joe Will founded the winery and Newman Smith helped build it out. The range covers small exclusive bottlings and everyday drinking alike.

Every bottle ships straight from the winery.

The story behind Strewn

Strewn is a Niagara-on-the-Lake winery opened in 1997 by winemaker Joe Will and food writer Jane Langdon. They built it inside a former fruit cannery on Lakeshore Road, a large industrial building from the mid-1900s that once packed the region's harvest.

The couple turned the old cannery into a winery, restaurant, and cooking school on a single estate property, and Joe Will still owns it today.

Estate wines and a food focus

Joe Will, trained at Australia's Roseworthy wine college, founded the winemaking program, with Taylor Hulley now the head winemaker after joining in the early 2020s. The wines are made in small lots, mostly VQA, drawing on the estate vineyard and other Niagara Peninsula fruit.

The range covers Bordeaux-style reds such as Merlot and Cabernet Franc, a spread of Chardonnays, and icewine. Strewn is credited with making one of Niagara's first barrel-fermented Riesling icewines.
