The âGeekinessâ is on the rise with this wine! Our âSolera Leesâ system will continue into future vintages until we can answer the question: How much lees is âtoo muchâ lees? Only âThe Geekâ knows.
Nose: Reductive notes of charcoal smoke and flint are beautifully supported by stone fruit and hints of petrol.
Palate: On the palate, there is a rich and creamy texture that comes together with the freshness of other grape varieties.
Finish: A lovely lingering finish, this wine is practically immortal and will age well for the next decade and beyond.
Pairing: Drink with freshly shucked oysters, sushi, and the geek you love most.
Winemaking Notes: With this sixth vintage of the Geek Riesling, the tanks get bigger, but the production volume stays about the same. Hand-picked and hand-sorted grapes were gently whole cluster-pressed. Treated the same as the Wismer-Foxcroft Riesling for the first 2/3 of the fermentation process, a portion of the wine was drawn off when fermentation ended on the Wismer-Foxcroft Riesling and allowed to ferment to dryness in a separate tank. As fermentations from other white wines (Riesling, Chardonnay & Sauvignon Blanc) were completed, their lees were added to this drawn-off portion. All the lees from the 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 vintages of this wine were added. Allowed to age on these extra lees for 22 months, the 2019 Geek Riesling was racked and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
