Description from the Producer
Tasting Notes: The 2020 Pied de Cuve Chardonnay shows an intense and complex nose of lemon, salty minerality, subtle bready lees notes and concentrated nectarine and toasted nuts. The palate is dry, intense and powerful, has a seamless texture, and racy, mineral acidity. Flavours of peach, nectarine and preserved lemon, show through the long, mineral finish.
Pied de Cuve are Little Farm's natural wines. these are wines that receive almost no intervention from start to finish and are therefore a pure reflection of the place, the grape and the vintage. Pied de Cuve is a technique to start a fermentation using only the yeasts that are naturally occurring on the skin of the grapes.
Vintage & Production: The 2020 vintage was a lovely, moderate, growing season and a nice bounce back to production after a small 2019 harvest, showcasing the resilience of the organic farm. The grapes came in mid-September, which is about average, in spite of a slightly late and wet spring. Conditions were good late in the season and harvest could be made whenever we felt the grapes were right, which is the ideal situation for balanced, flavoursome clusters. The grapes fermented wild, in neutral barrels and aged on the lees for about 9 months prior to bottling unfined and unfiltered. Nothing added or taken away other than a small dose of sulfur at bottling.
